thoughts on bonding (2 rabbits)
This was our first introduction to bonding back in August 2020 - we were at a rescue shelter in Upland, and on a whim fell in love with this boy (note: adoptions should never be on a whim, but we've been thinking about it since April). However, we let Marshmallow decide if we were taking him home.
Some positive behaviors he showed was grooming, relaxing in to her, and submitting to her. Negative behaviors included mounting (this also includes biting or chasing, which he didn't exhibit).
We drove up 7+ hours to adopt Macaron from Friends of Unwanted Rabbits . To date, they are our fastest bond at 56 hours (it is considered a bond if the fluffle go 48+ hrs without fighting, chasing and other negative behaviors).
Macaron exhibited some negative behaviors like nipping and chasing - however, by bonding in a neutral space (hotel room), keeping the space small, and even utilizing a simulated car ride (& eventually a 7+ hr car ride with breaks home) - they are each other's best friends.
